Check Mate...

You'd be hard pushed to have missed the 'check' trend, IT.IS.EVERYWHERE!

It first hit my radar in the Spring courtesy of Topshop with this print..;

I blogged about this little number back here, it was one of those beautiful finds long after it was out of stock online.

New Skirt - ASOS, buy here. I had mixed feeling about this skirt, the front shot doesn't really do me any favours but, I figured how long would I be stood front profile to anyone long enough for them to critique the directional checks and the wideness it gives...? (think too much?) The shape (kilt style), I love!

Worn with Valentino Rockstuds, Portmans barrel bag and ASOS blouse.

ASOS also do this skirt in a full midi and they have a matching jacket...see below.

These trousers are the ones I picked up from Portmans in Oz, a second outing today for work. Worn with a black cap sleeved peplum top and the 'standard' patent courts (memo to me, copying in me - need to liven up work shoe collection)...

Checked Top Picks On The High Street...;

I love this ASOS swing cami!! Buy here for a totally reasonable £14! I can see this working well with the layering trend too, bang it on under a new season jumper so just the bottom is ever-so-casually just hanging...

French Connection Paint Checked Richie Dress, buy here. (Pssst Andrea has it here too!)

These are veeerrrry similar to my Portmans pair (above)...Dare I say, I realllly like these ones...(I hate it when this happens, I prefer the tapering on these ones!!) These treasures are also ASOS and, in the sale here.

The jacket from ASOS that's all matchy with my skirt...I've seen this styled with the sleeves rolled up and that is definitely my preference. I know I couldn't pull off the whole suit look, it'd drown me, if you can, do it! Buy the jacket here.

This New Look knit is based on the Anderson (in my eyes the original this year) checked jumper. I'm seriously considering this to chuck on with my battered boyfriend jeans/leather skirt/pleather skinnies and some (feet slicing) strappy shoes!

I realise that these are all in the main mono or, as near as damn it to mono so my plan is to add colour with accessories/layers etc etc....The reason I guess I'm adverse to colour in my 'check' is that I then interpret it as tartan and that creates a link to a childhood flashback...;

Mission;Style...aged 3 (ish)...

Ignoring the (once on trend) carpet, sea of feathers and that my calves (thankfully now proportioned better with the rest of my body) look like they'd hold up Tower Bridge....., may I draw you attention to the face... I'm guessing this was a face that was overheating in the kilt with built in vest combo that required a super scratchy jumper layered over to ensure my core temperature was near boiling...This my friends, is why not matter how on trend, I can't do tartan...not even a scarf...

Have you invested in checks? Any good buys worth shouting about?
